What is TechDefenders?

TechDefenders is a non profit working to educate the future generations of Northern Kentucky in Cyber Security. TechDefenders has a tuition-free, 12 week, high caliber curriculum designed for High School students to start their Cyber Defense journey.  We supply expert support, cloud systems, network and computer hardware along with volunteer instructors to give a quality classroom-like experience. TechDefenders was founded in 2015 and has launched at Newport High School, starting its program in January 2016. We look to serve a larger number of High Schools during the coming school year.

Our Mission:

As the world’s online presence continues to grow and grow, multi-million dollar hacks of large corporations are right behind, threatening businesses and organizations around the globe. The technology world needs strong talented minds to help fight for security and justice. Our mission is to inspire and educate tomorrow’s leaders of cyber security, and to prepare them for the college curriculum and eventually the workforce.

Our Curriculum:

TechDefenders founder Jon Salisbury and security consultant Ty Braunwart took the NKU Cyber Defense team model and applied it to High School students. With up to 3 hours a week over 12 weeks, this course would not be possible without the support of our sponsors. Nexigen, our founding organization and sponsor, is donating some serious Cloud Computing time along with coaching resources. NKU is also sponsoring the class by holding a 2 week summer camp for the students who participate. TechDefenders will also provide coaches, computer gear, cloud computing space, and a scholarship to the most outstanding student to the Northern Kentucky University College of Informatics.
